Completed the first segment of my Dan Jilek virtual biathlon and did a 6 mile walk around Lake St Clair Metropark. I hope to add a bike ride in the near future.

Dan Memory: One U of M football Saturday Dan said I should sell my regular ticket and sit with him. On the way to our seats, Dan suggested a restroom stop and he led me into one near his long time seats. His mind must have been on the field because he took me into the ladies room. Dan made an athletic move and a quick exit. I have no athletic moves and the occupants probably thought I was lingering. There is a sign in the Michigan locker room that says "Those who stay will be Champions". I could have been arrested.
Here's Noah and my time. Colleen, Eloise, and Genevieve all rode scooters together, Corinne and Joyce Helen ran a 34 minute 5k, and Joe B beat everyone on my bike.
I have memories of Uncle Dan threatening one way trips to Stumptown. Most of all I remember him dragging at least 7 kids across the yard at Baker Street while carrying the football.
I remember when Dan was waiting to leave Joe and Joyce Jilek's house after a party (Joseph's christening?) and everyone was gathered with Dan ready to go and then the kids had to do one last good-bye. Dan just sat in a chair with coats piled to his nose and smiled while waiting patiently. What a guy and Dad and husband! Love, Joe and Joyce Bayma
Thank you Nicholas and Colleen for organizing the run at Maybury Park and designing the t-shirts!
Rasa and I hiked whipple mountain in uncle Dan’s honor today... we did not break any records, but Rasa is 9 months pregnant... reminded me of uncle Dan’s STEAMROLLER coming down the trail... unstoppable momentum... looking forward to the newest design! 90% of my t shirts are Dan Jilek designs, which is not a bad thing.
Bobby and I made it out this evening once the weather cleared in Royal Oak. We’ve been wanting to check out the high school track and this was the perfect opportunity. Although we never had the chance to meet Dan, there is no doubt we would have enjoyed his company. We do hear stories and fun memories from his kids — which are always nice to hear!
Bobby Fuller: 21:00 Kayla Davis: 24:57
PS - Joy I can attest that Bobby ran the full 5K this year! LOL
The Ann Arbor Jilek’s participated in the virtual 18th Dan Jilek fun run/walk at Gallup Park today. Dan’s grandkids walked, rollerbladed, scootered, or was pushed in a stroller, the adults walked/ran to keep up with the children. The rain held off during our time together as we shared fond memories of the best friend/husband/dad our family could’ve asked for; we miss Dan everyday. Thank you all for keeping Dan’s memory alive! ❤️
As mentioned above, the Ann Arbor Jileks were able to meet up at Gallup Park today to complete the 5K together as a family. I don't think I posted my best time ever, but was glad to get in a nice walk in a location other than my neighborhood for the first time in a while!
I have so many great memories of my dad. One thing that stands out is how much fun he brought to our family. He used to make up his own lyrics to songs (think Weird Al) and they were always hilarious! I wish I could remember specific songs, because while I try to torture my own children with unique versions of songs, my creativity pales in comparison to Dad's. Sarah and I also laugh when we remember that he wanted our 7th/8th grade girls' rec basketball team to exit the locker room single-file and locomotion-style to "Hanging Tough" by New Kids on the Block to intimidate the other team! We did have a pretty good team haha! I also remember him rolling all of the windows down on the way to school in the dead of winter and singing "Summertime summertime sum- sum- summertime" much to our dismay (but also secret enjoyment). He was the best and I miss him every day.
I managed to squeak out a 25minute 5k in my neighborhood in the afternoon after the rain had already passed. I wasn't fortunate enough to meet the Man himself but getting to call the Jilek family my friends over the years is a blessing in itself! I missed everyone this year and look forward to seeing ya'll in 2021 - stay safe out there! Love, Charlie
